We are committed to supporting the best students irrespective of financial circumstances. The following scholarships and bursaries are either funded by the University, through partnerships with external organisations or through generous donations from alumni and friends of the University.

The scholarships, awards and bursaries below are dedicated to supporting students from countries around the world. Other options for funding your studies may also be available.

ANID  (PGT + PGR)

ANID, formally CONICYT is the Chilean government student funding organisation.  Chilean Students  25% tuition fee discount

Chevening Scholarships (PGT) Chevening Scholarships are the UK government's global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations.  International students who are citizens of a , and intend to return there for a minimum of 2 years after their has finished. Various, up to £18,000.

Chinese Scholarship Council (PGR) An award in partnership with the Chinese Scholarships Council.  Applicants who are citizens and permanent residents of mainland China wishing to study for a PhD. Various; includes payment of full tuition fees and other living allowances, including health cover, airfare and visa application fees.

Colfuturo (PGT PGR) A Colombian non-profit foundation that was established with the support of the Colombian government. Colombian students. 20% tuition fee discount for PGT/PGR (apart from MBA) and one 100% tuition fee discount for a Taught Masters programme (apart from MBA).

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships (PGT) An award for MSc Civil Engineering, MSc Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding, MSc Defence Development and Diplomacy, MSc Mathematical Sciences, MSc and MA Climate, Risk and Society, MSc Environmental and Natural Resource Economics,  and MSc Sustainability, Energy and Development.

Students who are a citizen of or be granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.

Various; includes payment of full tuition fees and other living allowances.

Commonwealth PhD Scholarships(PGR) These scholarships are funded by the UK , for taught Masters, PhD programmes and professional development. Students from developing Commonwealth countries. Various allowances.

Funded by the UK . For PhD students studying at eligible universities across the Commonwealth to conduct research at an institute in the UK for 12 months.

Students who are registered for a PhD at a university in an eligible Commonwealth country.

(PGT) The National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt) is the Mexican government institution responsible for establishing public policies on the humanities, science, technology, and innovation. Students from Mexico.

Ó£»¨¶¯Âþ accepts the maximum tuition fee provided by CONAHCyT (MXN 200,000, approx. £9,400), without the need for students to make any contribution from their own funds.

Durham Palestine Educational Trust (PGT) An independent UK charity that assists the social and economic development of Palestine, by providing scholarships for Palestinian graduates. Students from Palestinian Occupied Territories.  Up to £13,000 per student.

Fulbright - Durham Scholarship (PGT) The US-UK Fulbright Commission focuses on opportunities and exchanges between the USA and the UK, as part of a global programme. Students who are US citizens, resident anywhere except the United Kingdom before commencing study. Full tuition fee scholarship, and up to $15,609 living costs, plus travel.

FUNED (PGT) 

FUNED is a non-profit organization that provides reimbursable educational and financial support to Mexican students to pursue master's degrees of excellence abroad. Mexican Students 10% discount on tuition fee for the duration of the programme

Durham-International Scholarships (PGT and UG)

Scholarships are available for most programmes, except business school and some named exclusions, see scholarship for details. For students from Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Vietnam. A £5,000 per year tuition fee discount.

GREAT Scholarships (PGT)

Launched by the British Council together to support more students to access excellent UK higher education opportunities. Students from Ghana and Pakistan. Two £10,000 per year tuition fee discount.

Marshall Scholarship (PGT) Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability, to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. Scholars are selected for any field of study. Students from the USA. Various, see  for details.

Ruth First Scholarship The Ruth First Educational Trust enables southern African students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds to undertake postgraduate study. Students from Southern Africa: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Republic of South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Full tuition fees, stipend for living expenses in monthly payments, one return travel, accommodation at St Chad's College and a contribution to visa costs.

Rise Scholarships (UG)  is an initiative of  and the that finds promising young people and provides them with opportunities that allow them to work together to serve others over their lifetimes. Rise winners from around the globe. 

Full payment of tuition fees, plus winners can also receive funding for a living stipend, accommodation, visa and immigration costs and health surcharges. See Rise website for more information.

Said Foundation Scholarship (PGT) The Said Foundation offers scholarships to individuals who can demonstrate the potential to become leaders and innovators of change. Students from Syria, Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan. Full tuition fees, full living expenses, one return travel and other allowances including thesis, visa fees and IHS fees.
